Attendees are divided into small homeroom classes based upon their years in practice and family law litigation experience. During this intensive eight day program, attendees develop skills training in all aspects of family law litigation, from opening statement to closing argument. Attendees are provided lectures and demonstrations on developing the theme of your case, opening statements, evidence, custody evaluations and psychological testing, business valuations, technology in the courtroom, direct and cross examination of parties and experts, and closing arguments. Students then return to their homeroom classes to participate in individualized training and exercises. Exercises are critiqued in the classroom by at least two experienced family law litigators and are digitally recorded and streamed to another classroom for a private one on one evaluation with a third faculty member. This learn by repetition approach is the key to developing the expertise and confidence to be a persuasive litigator. The week culminates with an actual final trial in the technology friendly courtrooms of the Harris County Civil Courthouse.
Advanced Cross-Examination

The Advanced Cross-Examination Institute is designed to provide attendees skills training in analyzing and organizing cross-examination as well as conducting advanced cross-examinations in a family law trial. This advanced course includes lectures and demonstrations on advanced cross-examination techniques by experienced family law litigators from across the United States. In addition, attendees will participate in individualized training and exercises. This course is taught by Sandy K. Ain. Sandy K. Ain is considered to be the finest family law litigators in the country. Advanced Business Valuation

This program includes an in-depth examination of business valuations in a family law matter. Topics of discussion include relevant IRS Rulings and other professional standards, the standard of value and appraisal approaches, trial strategies, and the role of the financial expert, and specific discovery needs for business valuations. Continuing the National Family Law Trial Institute’s learn by repetition approach, attendees also learn to develop direct and cross-examination questions and then practice examination of valuation experts. This course is taught by Jay E. Fishman, FASA, co-author, with Shannon Pratt, of the Guide to Business Valuation, and co-author, with Shannon Pratt and William Morrison, of Standards of Value: Theory and Applications, and Tim Madden, an attorney in South Carolina with extensive litigation experience in business valuation and complex marital property issues.
Advanced Child Custody

Advanced Child Custody program includes an in-depth examination of custody issues in a contested family law matter. Topics of discussion include psychological testing, elements of a proper child custody evaluation, importance of specific referral questions, identifying common and complex errors in the evaluation, deconstructing the evaluation, and evidentiary issues relating to custody litigation. Continuing the National Family Law Trial Institute’s learn by repetition approach, attendees also learn to develop direct and cross examination questions and then practice examination techniques by questioning nationally renowned forensic psychologist, Jonathan Gould. Dr. Gould is a Board-Certified Diplomate in Forensic Psychology from the American Board of Professional Psychology and testifies in child custody cases across the country. Dr. Gould is also the author of Psychological Experts in Divorce Actions, Conducting Scientifically Crafted Child Evaluations, and The Art and Science of Child Custody Evaluations. This course is taught by Dr. Gould and Lynn Kamin, a veteran practitioner of family law who has been recognized as one of the top divorce lawyers in the country.
